Cain and the Crow original oil painting

$750.00

Cain and the Crow, oil on canvas paper, measures 8.5 x 11 inches framed to 11.5 x 14 inches (gallery style 3 inch frame)

This painting depicts the story of Cain and Abel in the Qur’an. After Cain slays his brother Abel, a crow appears and indicates how to bury the corpse (by covering one of its own).
I placed the crow on Cain’s left shoulder, symbolizing his dark act. From far away, the crow seems to take the shape of a black wing, but Cain is far from a dark angel. He is penitent, and one of the “regretful,” (5:31). As the first son of Adam, he bore the burden of antithesis. He is the yang to Abel’s yin.
