Don’t Look original oil painting

This painting is about the gaze whether it be the gaze of the algorithm that demands selfies for views and profit or the gaze of the security apparatus that collects and sells our information or the male gaze that objectifies. It is a refusal to be pinned down and controlled. The veil which stretches into a hypnotic spiral works upon the viewer. There is magic and mystique in haya (modesty) and there is power in its response to the colonial gaze.

Oil on panel, 8 x 10 inches, comes framed to 10 x 12 inches
